22/10/06 :SOUTH WEST DRAG RACERS SHINE IN SEASON OPENER.
The seventh season of drag racing at The Perth Motorplex in Kwinana has begun, and for 2 South West Drag Racers it couldn't have been a better start.

Supercharged Outlaw racer Lindsay Catalano from Brunswick sometimes battled with a car that didn't want tokeep the front wheels on the ground, but in an impressive display of driving, Catalano was able to beat a field of 10 cars, his 1000 horsepower supercharged Valiant Charger was not happy in the final race, and a slow 8.33 at just under 200 kmh would not have been enough to win the race, fortunately for Catalano, a red light start from the dragster of Nigel Johnson in the next lane handed him the points and the winners trophy.

In Modifed Bike, Bengers' Adam Ewing was lucky to be racing after an incident with a grinder saw an injured finger threaten to proclude him from the opening event. Holding onto the bike proved difficult, but his tenacity was rewarded with a place in the final two. Adam has his crew chief, and brother in law, Sean Arthur to thank for a last minute clutch adjustment that saw Adam run a fast 8.45 second pass at over 250 kmh to beat ultra competitive David Gajsek to pickup the winners trophy.

It was a day of challenges for all racers, 30 degree heat greeted racers early in the day, while rain threatend to stop the meeting by late afternoon and a stiff tail wind blowing down the track all day made handling difficult for some of the cars and bikes. It was a good opening to the seaon with a few South West racers debuting new cars, and many chalking up personal best times with new or refreshed combinations. Paul Morrisey from SouthWest Harley Davidson debuted his new V Rod Destroyer, a bike that has been factory built for drag racing by Harley Davidson. The bike ran impressive 10 sec passesand Morrisey made it to the semi finals when a brain fade moment saw him roll off the throttle to early and get pipped at the post by David Gajsek. Morrisey is confident with a bit of tuning, the bikewill be running 9 sec passes before too long.

Todd Patterson, was excited going into the opening meet, having run an awsome 8 second pass on his turbo charged Ducatti, but electrical problems plagued the bike and he was eliminated early.Racers will now have to wait a few weeks before getting their machines out of the shed again, the next meet is on November 18, when local racers will be on the same bill as some of the nations best Top Alcohol racers
